Accessible Trails is my personal Web site. My name is Davey Schmidt and I live on the Olympic Peninsula between Sequim and Port Angeles. Years of sports injuries have taken their toll and for several years, I have been unable to walk any distance or partake in a favorite activity - hiking. In 2000, I got a mobility scooter and it opened doors that had been closed for some time. I started looking for trails I could take, and in the process realized how inaccessible so many things are that able bodied folks take for granted. Documenting trails and recreational opportunities became a passion. My constant hiking companion is my dog, Daks.

A Pride Hurricane scooter was used to explore the trails found in this web site. This electric scooter, with its 13" wheels and 4" clearance is capable of taking trails over longer distances that an unassisted, manual wheelchair user or a smaller indoor-type scooter may not be able to take.
For everyone's benefit, I've tried to assess the difficulty and note when a trail meets ADA guidelines. However, you should assess your limitations based on your disability, the type of mobility device you have, and whether anyone will be going on the trail with you to assist if needed. It is always a good idea to contact the agency responsible for managing the trail prior to using it. Note: Severe winter storms do a major amount of damage to roads and trails. Check before planning your trip.
