Accessible trails  in the Southwest Area of Washington State for Wheelers and Slow Walkers

The Southwest listing of accessible trails covers the Pacific Ocean, the Columbia River, the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and the Mount St. Helens National Vocanic Monument. It includes six counties: Pacific, Wahkiakum, Clark, Lewis, Cowlitz, and Skamania. The last three counties are gateways to the Mount St. Helens area.

U.S. Hwy 12 passes through Lewis County along the Cowlitz River Valley and is a gateway to the northwest side of Mount St. Helens, the south entrance to Mount Rainier, and the north west side of Mount Adams.

State Route Hwy 504, the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway takes you from Castle Rock in Cowlitz County to the west side of Mount St. Helens National Monument.

State Route Hwy 503, the Lewis River Highway passes through Cowlitz County at Woodland and into Skamania County. This route explores the south side of Mt St. Helens.

The lower half of Skamania County has accessible trails from State Route Hwy 14 into the Wind River area and along the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic area.

Vancouver, located near I-5 is the largest city in Clark country and a meca for those interested in urban trails along greenways, lakes, and historical districts.

Follow State Route Hwy 4 along the Columbia River past Longview in Cowlitz County, and Cathlamet in Wahkiakum County to Pacific County with its Long Beach and the Willapa Bay areas.
