Trail Index for Portland Metro Area

Portland Esplanade - photo by Cliff SnellFor the purposes of our site, the Portland Metro area includes four Oregon counties in northwest Oregon State: Columbia, Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas. The city of Portland is the seat of Multnomah County. The greater metro area extends into Columbia County to the north along the Columbia River, Washington County to the west including the foothills of Mount Hood, and Clackamas County to the south through the Willamette Valley, which includes much of the state's agriculture industry and Oregon Wine Country.

Portland's urban growth plan has made it a very compact and user-friendly city. You can drive 15 miles from downtown and be out in the country. Bicycling is a popular transportation and commuting option as well as walking and other outdoor recreation pursuits. Thus, the area has many wheelchair accessible paved trails and paths along waterways. Portland is near the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers with many interesting bridge views.

Portland's public transportation is accessible - see the TriMet Website for details.
